Will the New Congress Listen to Us? Let's Make Ourselves Heard!!

As I watched the 112th Congress getting ready to get going today and I listened to the New House Speaker John Boehner tell their goals, I could not help but think that a lot of people are saying that our hopes for getting Uniting American Families Act passed are now in jeopardy.  I refuse to be defeated by what other people are predicting.  I will work harder, I will call more people, I will fax and use Face Book and Twitter to get our message to Congress.  As Bi-national couples, we all need to speak out for what is right....what is right is allowing our families to be able to be together legally, safely and without fear.  Congress will hear from me and I hope that Congress will also hear from you.

We can take a lesson from the Dreamers.  They banded together, they became organized, they protested and spoke out.  They were able to gain national attention with their efforts and with the help they received from a couple of the Congress members.  We must do the same.  We must band together as the American half of our bi-national relationship.  We must stand up, stand strong, speak out and be heard.  We need to make ourselves known so that they can no longer brush us aside as inconsequential.

We are in love with someone who is not an American.  This is not a crime.  We are in love with someone who is of the same sex.  This is not a crime.  (although some would want it to be)  We want to live in peace and safety with our families.  This is not a crime.  We are doing nothing wrong, we do not deserve to be treated as outcasts or people without rights.  We deserve to be treated as the proud American citizens that we are.

It is cruel, rude and unacceptable for the people of Congress to ignore us any longer.  We will make it so they cannot.  We need to reach out to Congress and let them know that we are alive, well and quite angry with the treatment that Bi-national same sex couples have received thus far.  We deserve the same rights as our heterosexual counterparts and will except nothing less.  We are Americans.  We are productive members of society.  We are voters.

What we need to do:

1.  Find out who your Congress Members are and call, write, email, fax, text and twitter them every day.

2.  Tell your story to anyone who will listen.  Newspapers, TV stations....anyone, we need to get the word out.

3.  Contact me through this blog or my twitter handle   Song1964
Let's get organized.

We have been separated, "illegal", thrown out, tossed aside, ignored and hated for long enough.  We will be heard.  2011 is our year.  Let's repeal DOMA ... Let's get the Uniting American Families Act passed.  We must.....our families, our happiness, our lives depend on it.
