While We Wait for Others to Decide Our Lives.....

So we while we wait for the political games to play out, thousands of bi-national same sex couples are living banished from the United States or separate from their beloved, or in a totally different country (not native to either) or illegally together in the USA.

We would like to see some sort of positive action.  We are waiting....and waiting.....and waiting...How long would you wait for someone to give you the rights which should already be  yours?

California, Washington State, and Marriage Equality

 California and Proposition 8

Prop 8 is overturned again.  A federal appeals court ruled Tuesday that California's ban on gay marriage is unconstitutional. The U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that Proposition 8, the 2008 ballot measure that limited marriage in California to one man and one woman, violated the equal protection rights of gays and lesbians. Now, a forthcoming appeal could pave the way for the U.S. Supreme Court to rule on gay marriage as early as next year.

A three-judge panel ruled 2-1 to uphold Walker's decision. "Proposition 8 served no purpose, and had no effect, other than to lessen the status and human dignity of gays and lesbians in California," the court said. The Constitution "requires that there be at least a legitimate reason for the passage of a law that treats different classes of people differently. There was no such reason that Proposition 8 could have been enacted."

Currently, this means nothing for same sex couples as they still cannot start getting married.  The proponents of Prop 8 will have a chance to appeal. If and when the appeal is filed, which it inevitably will be, gay marriage will be kept on hold "pending future proceedings." From everything I have read, experts believe that the proponents of Prop 8 will bypass the full Ninth District Court and will try to take the issue directly to the U.S. Supreme Court.   The Supreme Court has the option to take up the case or not.

Washington State Legislature Passes Marriage Equality

Washington state lawmakers voted to approve gay marriage Wednesday, setting the stage for the state to become the seventh in the nation to allow same-sex couples to wed.

I, along with hundreds of thousands of Lesbians and Gays listened to the testimony given.  On a personal note I would like to say the following:  I am sick to death of the "Christian" religious right saying how that God feels that the act of homosexuality is a sin and an abomination.  Such things spewed forth from the lips of conservatives like I was in Baptist Sunday School.  We heard things like how much "in anguish" they were about this decision.  We heard the ever tiresome, yet erroneous, "traditional marriage" argument again and again.  We heard the flawed "marriage is for pro-creation" argument.  Let us not forget the new argument that Representative Hargrove gave:   Gays shouldn't get married because of a Super Bowl Ad.

The argument that is beyond me, however, is when they say that the gay and lesbian couples already have the same rights.  In the state in which I live, I can still be fired just for being a lesbian.  My wife and I traveled to Iowa to get married.  My marriage is not recognized in my state of residency.  I cannot sponsor my wife for a green card.  So when they say that we have equal rights, they are as mistaken as when they say that the Bible says that homosexuality is a sin.

Right now, none of this really helps bi-national same sex couples at all.   Immigration is a federal issue and all of this really fabulous great news is only happening at the state level.  We can only hope that some of the court cases being brought against the mistakenly called Defense of Marriage Act or DOMA come up before the United States Supreme Court.

Only a Fool Would Take Such A Strong Stand Without Research

Only a fool would take such a strong stand against Same Sex Marriage without researching the subject completely.  Why?  Because so much is at stake for an entire group of people. Thousands of people, of Americans are being discriminated against without good reason...but some think they are doing what is right without having done the research or the work.  This is irresponsible.

Quick facts about what the Bible says about it:

1. There are only six verses in the Bible that mention a "man lying with a man".
2.  In the verses where it is called an "abomination", it is clear that the Bible is speaking of the rites/practices of idol worship.
3.  The Church used to marry same sex couples

Further research I have done regarding said subject can be found on The Bible Says Homosexuality.

So the United States Congress would discriminate against an entire group of people based on hearsay.  I urge all of Congress to do research and read from both sides of the arguement.

Just because the church says something doesn't make it right.

*The Church said the Earth is Flat
*The Church said that the Earth was the center of the Universe
*The Church tortured and killed those who didn't agree with them
*The Church started wars in the name of God

The Founding Fathers believed that no one should push/impress their beliefs upon anyone else.  That is why they believed in the separation of Church and State and religious freedoms.

Repeal the discriminatory so called "Defense of Marriage Act".  Pass the Respect for Marriage Act.  Pass the Uniting American Families Act.  It is the right thing to do.

"Do Right Until the Stars Fall"  -Dr. Bob Jones

This is the right thing to do.  Give all Americans EQUAL rights.

American Family Association Sends an Email Full of Lies

This email was sent to me on November 16, 2011 by the American Family Association.  The lies throughout the email are fantastic.  The misrepresentation of the facts is close to being liable.  The whole of the untruths is so Unchristian it is amazing.

I am quite sure that this is not what the Bible means when it says to Preach the Gospel and to love our neighbors.

I cut and pasted this.  I changed nothing except removing my personal identifying information.

Gay weddings coming to ? - Senate voting on repeal of 'one man, one woman' marriage

S. 598 now goes to the full Senate, where YOUR Senators can stop it dead in its tracks.
November 15, 2011

Dear ,

Late last week, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and force to recognize same-sex marriages from other states.
If passed by the full Senate, the so-called "Respect for Marriage Act" (S. 598) will repeal DOMA and give federal recognition to two homosexuals who wish to be "married."
S. 598 shows anything but respect for the sanctity of marriage. Urge your Senators to stop this bill!
The repercussions are enormous:
  • States laws protecting marriage as between "one man, one woman" will become null and void - including the 31 states who have voted on constitutional amendments.
  • The military will be thrown into complete chaos and disarray, as Department of Defense leaders try to figure out housing, benefits, and "same-sex spouse" sensitivity training regimens.
  • Churches will come under fire from radical homosexual activists. Ministers and churches will be sued for "religious discrimination" for refusing to perform or allow gay "marriages."
  • Public schools will be forced to indoctrinate our children, teaching them that homosexual marriage is both natural and acceptable.
S. 598 now goes to the full Senate, where YOUR Senators can stop it dead in its tracks.
Last July, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said President Obama supports the bill to repeal DOMA. Carney replied: "I can tell you that the president has long called for a legislative repeal of the so-called Defense of Marriage Act...He is proud to support the Respect for Marriage Act...which would take DOMA off the books once and for all."

Traditions are for Families.

"I believe in traditional marriage being between one man and one woman...."  --Eric Cantor speaking at the University of Michigan

Traditions are for holidays.  Traditions are for memories.  Traditions are made for memories.  Marriage is a tradition I hope to have between my wife and I.  (Yes I am a lesbian)  We make our own traditions.  Traditions are not laws.  Traditions should not be made to be a law.  "This is the way we have always done it" is not the reason for a law.
Just because something is a tradition, doesn't mean it is always right.

                           Slavery
                           Women Voting
                           Black People's Rights
                           Interracial Marriage
                           Wigs on Men in Congress
                           Public Hanging
                           Public Flogging
Branding People With Letters (The Scarlet Letter)
A Sin Against God Being a Crime (adultery)

All of these were eventually changed.  If you think that God is against homosexuality, that didn't even make God's top ten list.  Sins that did make God's top 10:
                           Lying
                           Adultry
                           Stealing

Remember that there is supposed to be separation of Church and State....not when it is convenient for the Church, but all the time.

Traditions are for families.  Let my family have mine.  We need to pass the Respect for Marriage Act.  We need to pass the Uniting American Families Act.  We need to allow all Americans to begin to make their own family traditions!

The Sin of Promoting ‘Traditional Marriage’

Why do so many people misunderstand the Bible and the verses regarding homosexuality and same sex relationships?

Well, quite frankly, people don't have a vested interest in proving what centuries of people have said to be true...to prove them wrong. It wasn't until gay and lesbian theologians and their friends were able to step out of the closet and practice as open and affirming people, that these passages were looked into more deeply and with much greater interest. Thanks to efforts of these people we have a better understanding of the precise meaning of these passages. The good news of the Bible is still for all because none of these passages condemn a loving same sex relationship.

Faith in America

We also know that gay and lesbian couples uphold those same characteristics for their unions. Why would they not? Why would a parent of a gay son or daughter not want their child to enjoy the happiness derived from a lifelong devotion to those characteristics? Why would a brother or sister with a gay sibling not want their brother or sister to enjoy the happiness derived from a lifelong devotion to those characteristics?

Why would a person of faith not want the gay or lesbian individual to enjoy the happiness derived from the pursuit of marriage sanctity?

Why would we as Americans not want our government and its laws to recognize that same marriage sanctity for gay and lesbian individuals in their pursuit of liberty and happiness?

There can be only one reason and that is because many of us have been conditioned by years of misguided church teaching to look upon gay and lesbian individuals as morally inferior, unworthy and therefore undeserving of that which which we uphold as good and sanctified in our lives.

The use of the term “traditional marriage” embeds in our minds and hearts a moral and religious stamp of disapproval on gay and lesbian individuals and that brings immense harm to their lives, their happiness and their well-being.

Faith In America therefore believes the use of the term “traditional marriage” is without question morally unacceptable and equally sinful in the religious context.

Gay - Not In Indiana (part two)

I took my eight year old son to the doctor today for his allergy shot. He asked me to come back while he got his injection.

The nurse asked me, "what is your relationship to him."

I answered, "His mother..."

Then realizing that my wife brings him to get his shots most of the time I corrected myself and said, "I am his other mother..."

The nurse looked at me and said, "are you his Aunt, a friend or what..."

I said, "I am his other mother. He has two mothers."

Still not getting it she said, "But what is your relationship to the boy..."

I replied, "I am his mother. We have joint custody. ...."

Finally, maybe a light bulb came on or because I am the insurance carrier or what ever, she gave him his shots.

This should not be hard for someone to understand as the State of Indiana does have Second Parent Adoption

The Evansville Courier Press reports the following.

Some of the comments made by our elected officials are so ignorant and absolutely clueless (and that is the kindest I can be) that it is amazing that they had the ability to be elected at all.

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana House of Representatives voted Tuesday evening to amend a ban of gay marriages and civil unions into the state’s constitution.

The House approved the ban on a bipartisan 70-26 vote, starting the clock on a long process that – if there are no hitches along the way – could lead to voters having the final say in a November 2014 referendum.

The vote took place after a debate that, at less than 30 minutes, was much shorter than contentious issues often command in the House.

“The basic unit of society is the family, and the cornerstone of the family is marriage. Marriage is, and should be, the union of one man and one woman,” said the gay marriage ban’s author, Rep. Eric Turner, R-Marion.

Rep. Mary Ann Sullivan, D-Indianapolis, called the ban “a blow that hurts thousands across this great state, and taints our constitution with the language of hate,” and said she has friends and neighbors who are “deeply, deeply hurt by this legislation.”

Since the vote was originally scheduled for Monday, Sullivan said she had written her comments in the form of a valentine.

She said passing such a ban “removes talented people from classrooms and business, weakens the arts, our culture and progress, makes all of our cities less vibrant and diverse – the kinds of conditions that make economies worse.”

But Rep. Ralph Foley, R-Martinsville, said the ban would have no effect on Hoosiers’ ability to live with and love whomever they choose.

“That loving friendship is a different relationship than a husband and wife, and we should recognize that in the law,” he said.

Same-sex marriage is already prohibited under Indiana law, but Turner said a constitutional amendment is necessary to keep the state’s courts from overturning that law.

The amendment says: “Only a marriage between one man and one woman shall be valid or recognized as a marriage in Indiana. A legal status identical or substantially similar to that of marriage for unmarried individuals shall not be valid or recognized.”

One of the comments made by Mr. Turner was that it is not like this is really hurting anyone. I would have loved for him to look at the uncomfortable face of my son as I tried to explain over and over again that he has two mothers. He said, "Why couldn't she understand." I asked how he felt having two moms, he says, "I feel loved, but that was uncomfortable..."

The laws that discriminate are indeed hurting people. It hurts my wife and I (we were married in Iowa...although it means nothing in Indiana). We have no rights as a married couple. It hurts my children by the discrimination that exists, approved and promoted by the Indiana government. This is not right. Our laws need to be changed to include everyone. Come on Indiana.

Tyranny - Our United States Congress!

tyr·an·ny

   [tir-uh-nee] noun, plural -nies.

1. arbitrary or unrestrained exercise of power; despotic abuse of authority.

2. the government or rule of a tyrant or absolute ruler.

3. a state ruled by a tyrant or absolute ruler.

4. oppressive or unjustly severe government on the part of any ruler.

5. undue severity or harshness.

You cannot live with your spouse or your life partner. You cannot sponsor them for a green card or United States Citizenship. You cannot marry them and have that marriage recognized.

Does this sound foreign. Does this sound like a despot who will not even allow people to surf the internet. Does this sound like a government with the power to even limit how many children a couple has? Yes it does.

Unfortunately, it is not. It is our US Government. Time and again, the Speaker of the House, John Boehner says that they will deal with the Respect for Marriage Act, by not bringing it up for even a hearing. Time and again Lamar Smith, the Chairman of the Judiciary Committee has made it well known that he is anti-immigration reform/anti-immigrant and will not allow the Uniting American Families Act or really any Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act out of the Judiciary Committee.

This is nothing but an abuse of power. This is nothing but tyranny. It is unAmerican, unDemocratic, and against everything that has made the United States successful and great. To not even allow these bills to come up for hearing or votes, to discriminate against a certain group of people, to oppress ...well that is the definition of tyranny and the United States Congress.

For those who think I am over reacting, know that I have been waiting for over 10 years to be able to sponsor my wife for immigration. When you have been forced to endure such stress, torture and discrimination, then you can say I am being harsh and over reacting. I hold to my belief that our Congress is behaving like tyrants.

The Irony of NOM's Values Bus and the Marriage Defense

When NOM says people are marching in defense of marriage. I tell them, "Go ahead, I am for marriage...marriage for all who desire to get married."

When NOM talks about their family values bus, I say that is great, because American families need values. I am for teaching values.

What I don't like is the assumption that because I am a lesbian, I do not have values and I am against marriage.

I could go into all of the dead beat dad Christians, the Craig List Gay Sex Republicans and the low life pedophile Priests, but I will not. What I will say is this: How dare they make this assumption: heterosexuals have values and homosexuals do not. That is a lie.

Now I cannot speak for all people desiring to be married, but I can say that all a lot of us want is the right to be married, to be able to sponsor our partners, spouses, fiancee for a green card. We want to be able to live our lives and just be... just be free .... like any other couple in the United States of America..... Just be.

Pass the Respect for Marriage Act...Pass the Uniting American Families Act so American can be with "liberty and justice for all".

Maybe the lesbian and gay people should join the crowd at the values bus just to let NOM know, that we, too, have values and are for marriage...marriage equality for all. .... or not. We wouldn't want to feed into the homophobic lies that support the hate crimes and the bullying against our youth or add to the already inflated numbers that NOM puts out...but that is a subject for another blog entry.

The Nuclear Family

I was told by a Congressman that he was not for the Uniting American Families Act because "sure. It is right to allow nuclear families to immigrate (mom, dad, kids), but chain migration has put a strain on the system. Also, the federal gov't, IMHO, correctly, does not recognize gay marriage for purposes of "nuclear" family requirement."

I guess because I have a wife and children, I do not meet the nuclear requirements by the Federal government because I am a woman. They would rather cruelly tell me that I don't have the right to live with my wife and kids. That I do not have the right to sponsor the love of my life for immigration because I am a woman and she is a woman. Do they not realize how inhuman and cruel that really is.

If their underlying reason is religion, I have covered that more than adequately throughout my whole blog. I disagree with how you live, so you can't live. I don't understand how someone can be so horribly cruel. Do we not deserve to love and to live with our families? Do we not deserve to be happy, too. I am a lesbian, I am a Christian, I am a mother of two boys, I am a wife. I am an American. Please let me have the right to live with the rights that all American families deserve.

The Encyclopædia Britannica

nuclear family, also called elementary family, in sociology and anthropology, a group of people who are united by ties of partnership and parenthood and consisting of a pair of adults and their socially recognized children. Typically, but not always, the adults in a nuclear family are married. Although such couples are most often a man and a woman, the definition of the nuclear family has expanded with the advent of same-sex marriage. Children in a nuclear family may be the couple’s biological or adopted offspring.

Thus defined, the nuclear family was once widely held to be the most basic and universal form of social organization. Anthropological research, however, has illuminated so much variability of this form that it is safer to assume that what is universal is a “nuclear family complex” in which the roles of husband, wife, mother, father, son, daughter, brother, and sister are embodied by people whose biological relationships do not necessarily conform to the Western definitions of these terms. In matrilineal societies, for example, a child may be the responsibility not of his biological genitor but of his mother’s brother, who fulfills the roles typical of Western fatherhood.

If you would so torture people by keeping apart spouses from spouses, mothers from their children, fathers from their children, because we are homosexual, your indifference defines you and your cruelty rivals that of the Nazis who separated families without a second thought because they were beneath the dignity of the Aryan race.

What to Do About Speaker Boehner

The Speaker of the House, John Boehner refuses to bring the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) up for a vote. Not to mention that the immigrant hater Lamar Smith refuses to bring the Uniting American Families Act up for a hearing in the Judiciary Committee (but that is a different blog subject)

What we need to do is for all of us, every single one of us to contact, email, tweet, and/or fax the Speaker's office daily. YES, Daily.

To Email the Speaker, you must use this form outside of Ohio's 8th district.

We can complain about his tears and the fact that he refuses to bring DOMA up for a vote, but unless we take action, our complaints are only heard by those who actually agree with our arguments .... and this will not bring about change. I urge you to take action.

It was brought to my attention that I was remiss in leaving out his twitter accounts. He has two of them. @SpeakerBoehner and @johnboehner

New York Marriage Equality Bitter-Sweet for Bi-National Same Sex Couples

"Hey American ... Hey American Lady.... " A man with a very thick middle Eastern accent approached us.  "Hey you are American?  I will marry you for for $40,000"  As my girlfriend (later to become my wife) and I walked along the streets of Amsterdam fourteen years ago, this offer shocked me and made me uncomfortable.  I chuckled and said something about the guy being desperate.  Today, sadly, I  understand this man's desperation all too well.

Today, NEW YORK celebrated Marriage Equality.  It was so very bittersweet.  I looked at all the pictures and had tears in my eyes for happiness for these couples.

Congratulations from my heart to all of those who got married today and will marry in the future.

Today, a friend of mine will leave her country in Europe and come for a short visit here in the United States.  She will visit the love of her life.  She will have to leave in three months and go back to her country of origin and leave her life partner....because there is no equality for us.

Even if every single state in the Union and Puerto Rico were to legalize Marriage Equality...to legalize Same Sex Marriage, it would not help bi-national same sex couples...not one little bit.  Immigration is under Federal law and the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) is the law of the land.  If we could get the Comprehensive Immigration Reform (CIR) passed or the Uniting American Families Act. (UAFA) Now that is something that would remedy the situation and give us the freedom to be able to hold our loved ones in our arms...just to be able to be with them...

In the last year, two of my friends who are in a bi-national relationship will have in the last year, only spent 14 days together.  How is this justice?

Please read my friends stories. Their courage to share what they are going through and their strength inspire me.

The Last Night: VIDEO

A lot of my bi-national friends are legally married, however because of DOMA and because of unjust immigration laws, it does not matter. Legally, we are not allowed to be together. Please, if immigration by some other way, along some other avenue were possible, all of these bi-national couples would have done it already.

Please celebrate Marriage Equality in New York and know our hearts rejoice with yours. Please understand that we still are apart from our husbands, wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, life partners and we have no legal avenue to get our spouses here. We need DOMA repealed and we need it done soon. We also need the Uniting American Families Act passed. We should have the right to sponsor our partners for immigration.

Please stand with us.

The Senate DOMA Hearing

The first ever congressional hearing on the Respect for Marriage Act has ended. Among the witnesses were Freedom to Marry's Founder and President Evan Wolfson

Ron Wallen, a California man who may lose his home because DOMA prohibits him from receiving Social Security survivor benefits from his recently deceased husband Tom.

Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) questions Focus on the Family's Tom Minnery about his misrepresentation of a HHS study while claiming that children are better off being raised in homes with opposite-sex couples. The study found that children fair best when raised in homes with two parents regardless of gender.

Under questioning from Sen. Patrick Leahy, Focus on the Family's Tom Minnery admits that children are disadvantaged by lack of protections for same-sex couples.

From The Atlantic

Back in 1996, no senator was calling the antigay forces on their lies, damn lies, and statistics. No senator approvingly quoted his state's married same-sex couples or invited white-bread suburban lawnmowing gay men and lesbians to tell the heartbreaking disaster stories about being excluded from full marriage recognition. This time, perhaps no Republican senator was yet willing to urge DOMA's repeal, but only Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) showed up to speak in support of it.

The moral panic of the late 1980s and early 1990s left behind three major legacies: Bowers v. Hardwick, "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," and DOMA. The first two have fallen. And while states' laws and constitutional amendments have to be repealed as well, the federal DOMA is the most important brick in the wall. Today I could see that wall shaking.

Tom and Ron's story is a stark example of the kind of injustice same-sex couples face due to the Defense of Marriage Act. You can help reverse it by signing the petition to end the "gay tax" and repeal DOMA at http://freedomtomarry.org/taxday

The Church/World Wrong?

The Earth is Flat

The church says the earth is flat, but I know that it is round, for I have seen the shadow on the moon, and I have more faith in a shadow than in the church” Ferdinand Magellan

The Earth is the Center of the Universe and the Sun rotates around the Earth Galileo Galilei - believed that the Earth rotated around the Sun. The entire world...all of the experts felt that the Earth was the center of the universe. From Wikipedia:

In February 1616, although he had been cleared of any offence, the Catholic Church nevertheless condemned heliocentrism as "false and contrary to Scripture", and Galileo was warned to abandon his support for it—which he promised to do. When he later defended his views in his most famous work, Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief World Systems, published in 1632, he was tried by the Inquisition, found "vehemently suspect of heresy", forced to recant, and spent the rest of his life under house arrest.

The Bible says that Homosexuality is an Abomination

What the Bible says is an abomination is the unholy practice and cult ritual of a man depositing his sperm in the body of the High Priest during idol worship. The Bible never condemns a loving, monogamous, same sex relationship.

The Bible Says - Marriage

The Bible Says - Homosexuality

The Salem Witch Trials

From Wikipedia

The Salem witch trials were a series of hearings before county court trials to prosecute people accused of witchcraft in the counties of Essex, Suffolk, and Middlesex in colonial Massachusetts, between February 1692 and May 1693. Despite being generally known as the Salem witch trials, the preliminary hearings in 1692 were conducted in a variety of towns across the province: Salem Village (now Danvers), Ipswich, Andover and Salem Town.

The best-known trials were conducted by the Court of Oyer and Terminer in 1692 in Salem Town. Over 150 people were arrested and imprisoned, with even more accused but not formally pursued by the authorities. All twenty-six who went to trial before this court were convicted. The four sessions of the Superior Court of Judicature in 1693, held in Salem Village, but also in Ipswich, Boston and Charlestown, produced only three convictions in the thirty-one witchcraft trials it conducted. The two courts convicted twenty-nine people of the capital felony of witchcraft. Nineteen of the accused, fourteen women and five men, were executed by hanging.[1] One man, Giles Corey, refused to enter a plea and was crushed to death under heavy stones in an attempt to force him to do so. At least five more of the accused died in prison.

The episode is one of the most famous cases of mass hysteria, and has been used in political rhetoric and popular literature as a vivid cautionary tale about the dangers of isolationism, religious extremism, false accusations, lapses in due process, and local governmental intrusion on individual liberties

It is Against My Religion

Do people even REALLY know why they oppose Same Sex Marriage? Do they oppose it because it's what everyone is saying? Is it POLITICS? People's lives are hanging in the balance as they wait to be able to sponsor their foreign born spouse. We cannot afford for this to be about POLITICS. Is it because they think it is against God? To quote your Mom, "If all of your friends jumped off of a cliff...." To illustrate this point read the following true story:

Today at work, I was having lunch with some of my friends and it happened that the subject turned to same sex marriage. A Registered Nurse said, "I just don't believe in it, it's against my religion..."

I said to her, "what religion are you?" She replied, "I don't have any religion"

She then started swearing about her cold lunch. I wanted to say to her that her language was against my religion, but I didn't want to "go there". I did say to her, "How can it be against your religion if you don't have one?"

I then asked her what would she do if her son was gay. She said, "I would have to hit him in the head with a brick...I don't know what I would do..."

I am a Christian, I am a Lesbian. For those who do not understand how I can be both, I encourage you to please read my entire blog. It tells you of my faith, my research, my struggle and finally the peace that passes all understanding

I did a lot of soul searching. My blog entry The Bible Says, Homosexuality is a two month long deep research into the history of when these verses were written. I went to the original language. I studied what each nuance of the words meant. I looked at liberal interpretations. I looked at conservative interpretations. I studied secular history of the time. That blog entry is my research. I believe that it is unbiased and detailed study as to what the Bible says about Same Sex love.

The other day my sister's best friend made the following statement, and I quote. "Since I am not a Greek,Hebrew etc scholar I don't know and have trust my teachers who are wiser and more educated than I. I can't believe it at this time but I will be more than happy if I get to heaven and learn that you are right!"

This woman would blindly follow her Pastor when people's lives hang in the balance. While people are not being allowed the same rights as other people, these folks are content to listen. They are content to follow the status quo. I wonder if it were something that directly influenced their lives if they would be so passive? I wonder what kind of research they would do?

While people are content to believe their religion blindly, couples are separated due to DOMA. I urge you to read the book The Children Are Free. Do your own research on this most important subject that people are waging war on both sides of the issue.

I mean who really cares who is kissing who. Who really cares about who is marrying who. Can love be wrong? God is love. So since God is love, shouldn't we be for people who just want to be allowed to love and marry the person that they choose? There are so many other horrible things to be against, but love should not be one of them

The Last Night - Video

This is a video made by Inger and Philippa on their last night together before Philippa had to return to the United Kingdom. The sound is rough because they had a fan running in the background and sound perfection was not what was on their mind I assure you. I have shared their story twice in two different stories on this blog because these two ladies inspire me with their love, faith, courage, and their tenacity to get things changed.

A Love Story

I Am My Beloved's and My Beloved is Mine

Under the video is the transcript of what Inger is saying. I hope you will take the time to watch the video and try the understand the pain they are going through as they speak from the heart.

Inger speaking:

Hi everyone, this is Inger and Philippa here, and we said we'd make a video and so we are. It is the last full night we will spend together for god knows how long and I for one am not coping. I don't want this. I need everybody out there to realize that this is wrong. You all need to vote, talk to your congress people, your senators. I'm not going to give you a sermon, but it is so hard to know, that...uh...the life we share together is on the whim of a government that doesn't even know we exist.

Philippa had difficulty coming in through immigration and the U. S. border control, she was interviewed twice and got her documents taken off her which means that after waiting six and one half months the likelihood of her coming in in the next year seems pretty slim, unless there are some changes made.

We've had a good three weeks, it's been really wistful, but we've had some great times, a lot of smiles but now we are down to the wire she's going to leave tomorrow evening and my heart's breaking. I don't want to keep doing this.... but I will. I'll wait as long as I have to to be with my family. But...for those of you who are with the ones you love...treasure every minute you have. And for those of you in our same situation, contact me. We have to figure out a way to change things...this can't keep happening.

If you are in a bi-national couple, it's worth it. It's hard, God I know it's hard, living on phone calls and living on web cam and living on letters and packages, planning the occasional trip, it's difficult, but it beats a half life of living alone or settling for something other than true love. That's my sermon.

Hi Jo! I was promised..I promised that, uh, I'd say that.

(to Philippa) Anything you wanna say? Talk to the nice people (Philippa shakes her head no and continues crying) (Inger cont) We love all of you and we are so grateful for your support, and uh, we'd be in much worse shape if we didn't have....(turning to Philippa) I love you so much...(Philippa replies, "I love you") (facing forward) and I don't ever want to be without her. (crying)

We need to change the world and we can't do it alone, I can't do it alone, but I'm going to do everything I can. And if any of you know how to contact the people at Logos and get them interested so we can get the word out contact me on face book, on email, I'll give you my phone number, I don't care...SOMEBODY has to make a big deal out of this...people have to know!

I spent two days at Pride talking to hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of people and ... I would say seventy- five percent of them had no idea, and there were a few bi-national couples who I met who were either they couldn't make it, they couldn't last because it's so hard...or...they've gone the other way and are just flying under the wire and I don't want to do either of those things. I want to do it right. I want to have this woman by my side, show the world that I love her...(dog whining in background) And our pug (turning away) (laughs) wants you to know that he loves his mommy and he wants her to stay with us (Oscar the pug barks in agreement) and it's just not right. (Oscar continues to whine and Philippa and Inger turn away and back again and laugh) (Inger sniffling)

We haven't been moping the whole time but this is to be expected and so we are doing this tonight because I will be moderately hysterical tomorrow (fake smile) and uh...(dog barking) not be able to explain what I'm feeling. It's this tight wad of anger and sadness that I'm feeling .... (breathes big sigh) I don't know what to do...so...anyone out there who can figure it out and help me out ...help us out...I'd truly appreciate it. (turning to Philippa) I get it all? (Philippa nods) (turns back to the cam) We love all of you ...and we're glad to have you in our lives (crying) I don't know what to tell you but thank you for everything (shakes head) we're gonna ask for more so you might as well help us so we'll shut up. (voice breaking) Take care, all of you. Night. (cries and can't continue)

Let's Keep it Going, Let's Get This Done!

It has been a big couple of weeks in LGBT news. First of all, on March 16th the Respect for Marriage Act was introduced into Congress, both the Senate and House.
The 2011 bill was introduced by U.S. Representative Jerrold Nadler of New York on March 16, 2011, and had 108 original cosponsors. A U.S. Senate version was introduced by Dianne Feinstein of California on the same day and had 18 original cosponsors.
Next we had great news with bi-national same sex couples!
Paul Schindler with Gay City News:

It what appears to be the first such action of its type, an Immigration Judge in Manhattan has adjourned deportation proceedings for the Argentine lesbian spouse of an American citizen to allow the couple to proceed with their application to have their marriage recognized for purposes of federal immigration law.

Monica Alcota, 35, who came to the US a decade ago, married her partner of nearly three years, 25-year-old Cristina Ojeda, last August in Connecticut.

The couple’s attorneys, Lavi Soloway and Noemi Masliah, argue that their clients’ marital status should qualify Alcota for permanent residency, as would be the case with any different-sex couple.

A 2010 US court ruling striking down the Defense of Marriage Act’s denial of federal recognition for legal same-sex marriages, they say –– coupled with the Justice Department’s recent decision that it could not and would not defend DOMA’s constitutionality on that point –– opens up the real possibility that Alcota and Ojeda may be accorded recognition.

In a March 22 hearing in the US courthouse at 26 Federal Plaza in Lower Manhattan, Immigration Judge Terry A. Bain gave the couple the go-ahead to press their claim with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) –– a unit of the Department of Homeland Security –– through what is known as Form I-130, a petition to have Alcota recognized as “the spouse of USC.”

For now, the couple’s case has been adjourned until December, a decision supported by the government's attorney.

“It is almost impossible to overstate the significance of what happened in there,” Soloway said immediately after the hearing. “An adjournment based on an I-130. It would never have happened a year ago. I don’t think I even would have filed it.”
Describing the development as “huge,” Soloway also credited Bain with being “very kind, very generous” in her handling of the case.

Judy Rickard released her book about several Bi-national same sex couples.  Featured in this book are several stories of bi-national same sex couples painfully true stories of separation including a couple whom I have had the privileged of putting their story on my blog :  Inger and Philippa

When purchasing this book, part of the monies will be donated to an LBGT group of your choice.  I have provided a link to this book for those who wish to purchase it, just click on the picture of the book.

What does all of this mean for us as same sex bi-national couples?  It is the most hope that we have had in years.  We need to take action.  We need to write, text, tweet, fax, Facebook all of our Congress people.  We need to remind them that the last time the Respect for Marriage Act was introduced into Congress, it died in the Judiciary Committee.  It is our job, it is our right, it is our place to make sure that the Congress hears from us so often, so much that they know where our hearts are.  We need to get the Uniting American Families Act introduced into Congress and passed.

The Raw Story's David Edwards reported on March 23rd the following story:

Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) is fighting for the rights of bi-national gay and lesbian couples who could otherwise be torn apart by deportation proceedings. Nadler Communication Director Ilan Kayatsky told Raw Story Wednesday that the congressman was planning on re-introducing the Uniting American Families Act -- legislation that aims to provide immigration equality to bi-national same sex couples.

News of Nadler's plan comes a day after Immigration Judge Terry A. Bain halted deportation proceedings against Monica Alcota, a citizen of Argentina, while her wife, Cristina Ojeda, moves forward with a green card petition on her behalf.
It was the first time a married same sex couple had successfully argued that a pending deportation should be halted based on the Obama administration's decision to no longer defend the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).
"In light of these developments, Judge Bain's decision to stop deportation proceedings and allow Monica Alcota and Cristina Ojeda to seek recognition of their marriage was the right, necessary, and just thing to do," Nadler said Wednesday.
"Our immigration laws protect families by allowing spouses of United States citizens to remain in the country. No family or committed couple should be needlessly torn apart while we work to bring a final end to this shameful law," he added.
Kayatsky said that Nadler had been introducing related legislation for over ten years.
"He got interested a while back when he found out about and met couples who fell into that category -- one partner was from another country and because they were barred from being legally married, they could not sponsor the foreign partner for immigration purposes just like straight couples can," he explained.
"It struck him as a gratuitously cruel and unnecessary part immigration law -- something that probably wasn't foreseen when the immigration laws were being drafted and that really served no purpose in federal law. It simply discriminated against gay and lesbian couples and punished families and committed couples, which is precisely the opposite of how federal law should be envisioned."
With the administration's decision to no longer defend DOMA, Nadler anticipates even more challenges to deportation proceedings, Kayatsky said.
"There's a big chink in the wall now that the court has declared DOMA is unconstitutional and the Department of Justice has agreed," he continued.
"For the congressman and for people on this side, it's really disappointing that Republican leaders of the House rushed into the matter, announcing their intention to defend DOMA in court... and they did so without really taking a fresh look at the facts," Kayatsky added.
Nadler has already re-introduced the Respect for Marriage Act -- to completely undo DOMA. Kayatsky expected him to re-introduce the Uniting American Families Act "soon."

Next, on the 24th of March, we learned that supporters of repealing the Defense of Marriage Act are calling on the Senate to hold hearings on the impact the denial of the federal benefits and responsibilities of marriage is having on married same-sex couples throughout the United States.

All of this is a lot to take in as it has all happened in the last few weeks.  Right now we need to keep the momentum going.  If you do not know how, I will post links at the bottom of this page of who to contact for information on how you can become involved in making our voices heard in Congress.  Let's Get this DONE!!
